How to Find Company Employee Count from Company Name?

Going from a company name to a headcount takes two steps, because a name is ambiguous and the headcount lives on the LinkedIn company page. Derrick resolves both from a sidebar in Google Sheets: run Search Companies (1 credit per company) to match the name to its LinkedIn company URL, then Enrich Companies (1 credit per company) to return the employee count, size band, industry, headquarters, founded year and website. LinkedIn publishes size as a self-reported band (2-10, 11-50, 51-200, 201-500, 501-1,000, 1,001-5,000, 5,001-10,000, 10,001+) next to a live count of members listing that employer. A 500-name list therefore costs 500 credits to match plus 500 to enrich. Both features are available on the FREE plan, which includes 100 credits per month at 0 EUR, no card.

What is company employee count?

Company employee count is the headcount of an account, ideally with a 90-day growth trend (e.g. "120 employees, +12 % YoY"). It's the single most-used field in B2B segmentation: SaaS pricing tiers usually map to headcount bands, ICP definitions almost always include "X-Y employees", and territory routing in distributed sales teams routes by company size.

When you're working from a company name, the company employee count field becomes one of the most-requested enrichments because it lets you complete the buyer profile without forcing the prospect to fill another form. The trade-off is hit-rate: the company employee count value is only as findable as your company name is unambiguous.

Why you need company employee count for sales

Without a current headcount field, sales reps work blind on the most basic ICP-fit question. A 30-employee company looks identical in CRM to a 3,000-employee one if the field is empty. Hiring trend (the delta over the last 90 days) is even more valuable: a company that grew headcount 20 % in the last quarter is in expansion mode and 5-10× more likely to buy new tooling.

For sales-ops teams whose primary input is company name, company employee count is what unlocks the next step in the funnel: it's the field reps need to personalise outreach, route the lead to the right rep, or score the account against the ICP. Without it, your company name-based pipeline runs blind on the most operationally relevant data point.

Why find company employee count from company name?

Company Name is the lowest-friction input for company employee count enrichment - a sales rep can type one without leaving Sheets. The trade-off is matching ambiguity: two distinct accounts can share a name ("Acme Corp" exists in 12 industries, 80+ countries), so resolution requires a fuzzy-match layer with disambiguation prompts when matches conflict. Hit-rates for company employee count from company name typically land 10-20% lower than from a unique-identifier input like LinkedIn URL.

Common use cases for company employee count

  • ICP-fit scoring + lead routing by tier
  • Hiring-trend alerts (grew >20% = buying signal)
  • Pricing-tier qualification (SMB vs MM vs ENT)

Any questions?

Stop copying data around. Start enriching.

Is finding company employee count free?

+

The free Derrick plan ships 100 credits per month with no credit card required, which is enough to find company employee count for ~100 company name inputs depending on the lookup type. Paid plans start at €20/month for 10,000 credits if you need more volume.

What's the hit rate for finding company employee count from company name?

+

Derrick runs a multi-source lookup rather than querying a single database, so coverage is broader than a single-source provider. The hit rate for company employee count from company name depends on how uniquely your company name identifies the target, on geography, and on B2B vs B2C context, so we don't publish a single headline number. When no source returns a confident match, Derrick leaves the cell empty rather than guessing.

Can I bulk-enrich company employee count for thousands of rows?

+

Yes - Derrick processes batch enrichment runs across thousands of rows in a single job, in the web app or in Google Sheets, with progress tracking and per-row credit accounting. The workflow above scales linearly: 1 row or 10,000 rows, the steps are identical.

How does Derrick compare to other company employee count finders?

+

Most company employee count tools live as standalone web apps that require CSV export then re-import. Derrick runs in its own web app, natively in Google Sheets, and through the API + MCP, with hit rates competitive with premium providers and pricing 3-10× cheaper than enterprise databases. See the full sales-tool comparison for a side-by-side review.

Do I need an API key to find company employee count from company name?

+

No - the Derrick web app and the Google Sheets add-on both work with a simple sign-in (no API keys, no developer account needed). If you'd rather hit the REST API directly or drive enrichment from Claude / ChatGPT via MCP, both are available on the same credit pool. The choice is workflow-dependent, not pricing-dependent.
