Search Companies use cases

Search the Derrick company database from Google Sheets - by industry, headcount, country, tech stack or keyword - and write the results back into your sheet with full firmographics.

  • ICP-driven prospecting: query for SaaS companies with 50-200 employees in France running HubSpot - get 200 results.
  • Look-alike account building: enrich a list of best customers, then search for their look-alikes.
  • Territory expansion: surface every company in a new region matching your ICP before sending the first SDR.
  • Investor research: query funded companies in a specific stage + industry for your sales motion.
Accuracy you can count on

Search Companies - measured hit rate

ICP query → matching company in the result set. Higher is better. Reference points from public benchmarks + internal A/B tests.

Hit rates depend on input geography (US/EU vs APAC), B2B vs B2C context, and input quality. Numbers above are typical mid-funnel results for B2B sales teams running Search Companies on enriched lead lists.

Resolving a company name to its LinkedIn URL is the company-side equivalent of the lead-URL lookup : without it, none of the downstream LinkedIn-based enrichment (employee count, recent posts, funding signals) works. Most teams do this manually - Google the company name, click the LinkedIn result, copy the URL - or pay Clearbit ($200+/seat/month) for the same workflow.

Derrick reads a column of company names directly from Google Sheets and returns the matched LinkedIn company URL in the next cell. Match rate sits around 91 % on standard B2B companies - the 9 % miss is usually small businesses without a maintained LinkedIn page. Cost ~$0.007 per match on the Pro plan, free up to 100 lookups/month, no card. The bulk use case that drives adoption : turning a CSV of company names (event attendee list, conference roster, customer churn export) into a queryable enrichment-ready list. Higher volumes on the Derrick pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything to use Search Companies?

Just the Derrick Google Sheets add-on (one click, no API keys, no developer setup). Once installed, Search Companies is one of the workflows available from the Derrick sidebar inside any Sheet. The same feature is also available via REST API and via the Derrick MCP server for Claude / ChatGPT.

Can I use Search Companies on a list of 1,000+ rows?

Yes - Search Companies runs as a batch job inside Google Sheets, with progress tracking and per-row credit accounting. The workflow scales linearly: 10 rows or 10,000 rows, the steps are identical and you can step away while it runs.

Where does the data behind Search Companies come from?

Derrick aggregates 10+ public-data sources (LinkedIn graph, company websites, registry data, web crawl, third-party providers) and runs them in a waterfall for Search Companies. The first source that returns a confident match wins; if no source is confident enough, the cell is left blank rather than guessed.

Is Search Companies GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Derrick only enriches public data, doesn't store personal records beyond the duration of the lookup, and supports full deletion on request. The Sheets add-on runs inside Google's OAuth-protected environment so your data stays private to your account.

Can I trigger Search Companies automatically when I add a row?

Yes - set up a Google Sheets onEdit trigger (Apps Script, takes 2 minutes) so a new row in column A automatically runs Search Companies into column B. Pair with Zapier / Make / n8n to push CRM contacts directly into the sheet for hands-free enrichment.
