It was founded on January 26, 2021 by Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Jared Kaplan, Jack Clark, Chris Olah, Ben Mann, Sam McCandlish and Tom Brown, most of them former OpenAI researchers, and is organised as a public benefit corporation whose board is partly elected by an independent Long-Term Benefit Trust. It is headquartered at 500 Howard Street in San Francisco. In May 2026 it raised 65 billion dollars in a Series H round at a 965 billion dollar post-money valuation, and on September 28, 2026 its public IPO prospectus showed revenue of nearly 4.6 billion dollars for 2025 and 11.5 billion dollars for the second quarter of 2026 alone. The company has chosen Nasdaq for its listing. Dario Amodei is chief executive officer and Daniela Amodei is president and chair of the board.
