Coinbase Global, Inc. is an American crypto platform that Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam founded in May 2012. It runs a crypto exchange for consumers, an institutional business through Coinbase Prime, a developer platform, custody for digital assets and stablecoin payment rails, and it now sells access to equities, derivatives and prediction markets in what it calls the everything exchange. Coinbase trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker COIN. It reported 7.18 billion dollars of total revenue for 2025, up from 6.56 billion dollars in 2024, and closed the Deribit acquisition in August 2025 to lead in crypto options. The company is remote-first and states in its filings that it does not maintain a headquarters: the New York address on its SEC reports is given only because the regulator asks for one. It had 4,951 employees at the end of 2025, then cut about 700 roles, roughly 14 percent of staff, in May 2026 to reorganize around small AI-native teams.
