Co-founders Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri, both PeopleSoft veterans, started the company in 2005, and its Class A common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market as WDAY. Fiscal 2026, which ended January 31, 2026, closed with total revenues of 9.55 billion dollars, up 13 percent, and subscription revenues of 8.83 billion dollars, up 14 percent. More than 11,500 organizations, including over 65 percent of the Fortune 500, run Workday, with more than 75 million users under contract. The global workforce passed 21,000 employees across 36 countries at the end of fiscal 2026, roughly 58 percent of them in the United States. Aneel Bhusri returned as chief executive officer on February 9, 2026, succeeding Carl Eschenbach, and the company spent fiscal 2026 buying its way into agentic AI with Paradox, Sana Labs, FlowiseAI and Pipedream, then shipped Sana from Workday worldwide in March 2026 and Agent Passport at DevCon in June 2026.

Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chair
Aneel Bhusri is co-founder, chief executive officer and chair of Workday. He co-founded the company with Dave Duffield in 2005 around the idea of building enterprise software that puts people at the center, and has since held a range of leadership roles: co-CEO from 2009 to 2014, CEO from 2014 to 2020, co-CEO from 2020 to 2024, executive chair from 2024 to 2026, and CEO again from February 2026. Before Workday he held several leadership roles at PeopleSoft, including vice chair of the board and senior vice president responsible for product strategy, business development and marketing. He is a partner at Greylock Partners, a member of the board of trustees at Stanford University, and serves on the boards of the Workday Foundation, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Eat. Co-Founder and CEO Emeritus
Dave Duffield is a co-founder and CEO emeritus of Workday, which he started with Aneel Bhusri in 2005. Before Workday he founded PeopleSoft in 1987 and served as its chief executive officer and board chairman, growing it into the second-largest ERP application software company in the world before it was acquired in 2005. The other companies he launched include Integral Systems, Business Software and Information Associates. He and his family are the benefactors behind Duffield Hall, a nanoscale science and engineering facility at Cornell, and they support Maddie's Fund, a companion animal welfare foundation devoted to creating a no-kill nation.
